Radio career

He began his broadcasting career in Montgomery, Alabama immediately upon graduation, and worked at a number of radio stations in the American South, before moving to Chicago at WJPC (AM) (now WNTD).

In the mid-1980s, Joyner was simultaneously offered two positions: one for a morning show at KKDA-FM (K104) in Dallas and one for an afternoon show at WGCI-FM in Chicago. Instead of choosing between the two, Joyner chose to take both jobs, and for years he commuted daily by plane between the two cities, earning the nicknames “The Fly Jock” and “The Hardest Working Man in Radio.” He later told Radio Ink magazine that he racked up 7 million frequent flyer miles over the course of his employment at both stations

In 1994, Joyner was signed by ABC Radio Networks to host a nationally-syndicated program, The Tom Joyner Morning Show, featuring Joyner and a team of comedians and commentators reporting and discussing the latest news and sports of the day, and playing popular R&B songs from the 1970s through the 1990s as well as contemporary R&B hits. Also featured are celebrity guests, on-site remotes (called “Sky Shows”), and an on-air soap opera, It’s Your World which is currently not aired. Southwest Airlines is a prominent sponsor of the radio show, especially Joyner’s “Sky Shows,” and free round-trip airfare to any destination that Southwest flies to is a recurring giveaway on his show.

The Tom Joyner Show

In 2005, a nationally syndicated television show, The Tom Joyner Show, was launched with Joyner as emcee of a one-hour comedy/variety show, combining sketch comedy featuring the Tom Joyner Show Players (his co-hosts from the radio show), talent contests, and musical performances by such artists as Earth, Wind and Fire, Brian McKnight, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Toni Braxton. The show attracted advertisers such as McDonalds, Chrysler Corporation, WalMart and Southwest Airlines.

While the program achieved top ratings for a weekly syndicated program themed to African American viewers — even taking the number one show position, although it was in a late night time slot — in such markets as New York and Atlanta, affiliates in other markets were reluctant to upgrade the show to prime time for a targeted audience.[citation needed] Without the opportunity to reach a larger audience in earlier time slots and achieve greater revenues, the show had limited ability to offset the residuals and music clearances required by the many performers appearing on the show. Despite award recognition, in May 2006, Joyner decided not to continue due to production costs related to the music variety show concept.[citation needed] Re-runs are shown on TV One cable channel.[2]

Jennifer Lynn Lopez (born July 24, 1969[1]), also known by her nickname J.Lo, is an American actress, singer, record producer, dancer, television personality, fashion designer and television producer. Lopez began her career as a dancer on the television comedy program In Living Color. Subsequently venturing into acting, she gained recognition in the 1995 action-thriller Money Train.

Her first leading role was in the biographical film Selena (1997), in which she earned an ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress. Jennifer Lopez was born in the Bronx, New York, and raised on Blackrock Avenue in the New York City borough’s Castle Hill neighborhood.[10] She is the daughter of Puerto Rican parents Guadalupe (née Rodríguez), a kindergarten teacher, and David Lopez, a computer specialist, both born in Ponce, Puerto Rico.[11][12] Lopez was raised Roman Catholic.[13][14][15] She has two siblings, Lynda and Leslie. Online video streaming industry is heating up

Netflix is quickly becoming the largest video subscription service and its competition is racing to catch up. Netflix’s growth over the last year is a sign that something is happening in the online video streaming business. We asked our Zintro experts to comment on what’s happening in the industry, how it might be changing, and what new thing might be coming our way in online video services.

Jay O’Conner, CEO of World Colours Network Television and an expert in social media brandcasting and monetizing streaming video, says that Netflix and its nearest competitors will face challenges from a new breed of independent producers who are savvy enough to understand transmedia brandcasting and the relationship between social networked consumers and advertisers. Transmedia brandcasting involves optimizing brand narratives through multi-format, multimedia, and multi-device content and web services for mobile, print, packaging, signage, and satellite TV. “The company that can provide the technology, content, and mechanism to create a relationship from the audience to the advertiser to the brand will be the key player,” says O’Connor. “Companies like Netflix need to figure this out before Facebook and Google TV get there.  Otherwise, Netflix runs the risk of experiencing the same thing that Blockbuster did.”

To stay competitive Netflix, YouTube’s online service with Sony Pictures, and Amazon’s On-Demand all need be looking at multi-format options. Within five years, online video providers will be gateways for independent producers to release more content, which is what Facebook Social Cinema and GoogleTV are moving toward, O’Connor says.

Christophor Rick, an expert writer specializing in technology, new media and consumer electronics, a social media consultant, and CEO of Gamers Daily News, says that each of the cable operators is starting to work on their own customer-only streaming services; DiSH and DirecTV are going that way too. “It’s going to be a rapidly expanding market,” he says. But there are issues and concerns. “Netflix has 20,000 titles, but a lot of studios are shying away from them, afraid that they will turn into the Apple/iTunes of video and start dictating low prices, undercutting the potential profits of the studios,” says Rick.

However, Rick points out that Netflix has a plan in place that it is beginning to implement: removing the broadcasters and studios from the equation and simply buying content directly. “Netflix has licensed one show (House of Cards), which they could turn around and sell first-air rights to one of the broadcasters if the creators allow it,” he says.

This is how Netflix will survive, by cutting out the middle man and taking their place. Instead of buying rights to stream content from broadcasters, Netflix will buy it from the creators or buy all the rights and shop them around to broadcasters. “While it puts Netflix in direct competition with those they’re trying to license content from, it lets the industry know they’ve got cash to burn on new programs and are in the market to buy,” says Rick. “There is nothing stopping them from making a strategic alliance with a broadcaster, going after new content together, thereby creating a one-two punch of traditional and streaming rights.”
