WCN Transmedia Group Fashion: Beyonce Goes on a Fashion Rampage BY Alicia Waite | 20 May 2011

Beyoncé goes on a fashion rampage

Beyoncé manages to squeeze no less than seven designer outfits into her new music video.

Beyonce walking two snarling hyenas in Givenchy spring/summer 2011 couture. As you do.

The song might be called "Run the world (girls)" but, in sartorial terms, it's a fashion marathon.

Beyoncé's new music video, which was released this week, clocks up a number of luxury outfits selected from couture and mainline collections from the passed four seasons - a veritable feast of labels that would make even Lady Gaga blush.

Given the paces they are put through and the delicacy of the designs, how the garments make it through to the end of the five minute tour de force is anyone's guess. Lion-taming in a red Alexander McQueen autumn/winter 2010 printed mini and thigh-high heels, and walking snarling hyenas in a cream Givenchy spring/summer 2011 couture gown are just two of the tasks at Beyoncé's hand. Meanwhile, fires from exploding cars lick the back of a metallic Gareth Pugh autumn/winter 2011 minidress, and hoses soak a Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture tailcoat - and that's before Beyoncé has even started dancing.

Known for her supersonic moves, the former Destiny's Child singer puts a black Norma Kamali fringed jacket and two Emilio Pucci gowns from the spring/summer 2010 and autumn/winter 2011 collections to the test, throwing shapes so fast and furious I'd be surprised if there weren't burn marks on the fabric, post-routine. Nor, for that matter, on the soles of her perilously high Sergio Rossi gladiator boots, the heels of which must have been emitting sparks throughout.

Ten points to Beyonce for wearing her fashion with such ferocity!

WCN Transmedia Group News: PsychologyToday has Lost its Damn Mind:

First let me remind every Black women in the world that their beauty is infinite. From the Queen of Sheeba to Michele Obama there are countless examples of your attractiveness. So If I owned PT, it may be time for a Los Angeles Lakers type breakup. Whomever, okayed this article needs a rest, vacation or full blown retirement. For surely they must be sleep to the Halle Berry's to the Oprah Winfrey's. It blows me away how in this world where it is known that Black don't Crack that this publication should be allowed to go unchecked. So CHECK EM!! SEE BELOW AND DEMAND A APOLOGY. Here is a letter I received from -- Rashad, James, Gabriel, William, Dani, Matt, Natasha, and the rest of the ColorOfchange.org team

Dear Jay

Nearly 20 years after a black parent documented how hard it was to hear, "Mommy, I want to be white,"1 Psychology Today reinforced the false and hurtful sentiment that Black women aren't attractive.

Last week they published an article claiming it to be scientific fact that Black women are less beautiful than women of other races,2 penned by Satoshi Kanazawa, who is notorious for hiding behind pseudoscience to promote discredited racist and sexist ideas.3

By giving Kanazawa a platform and validating his ideas, Psychology Today dehumanized Black women and girls everywhere. After widespread public outcry, they removed the article from their website.4 But that alone won't erase the damage they've done by validating these discredited ideas — the editors need to apologize, explain how this happened, and let us know that it won't happen again. Please join us in demanding they do so immediately, and then ask your friends and family to do the same:

http://act.colorofchange.org/sign/psychtoday

Kanazawa's article is flawed from top to bottom.5 Using a dataset from an unrelated study of teenagers, he draws the obviously false conclusion that Black women are "objectively" less attractive than women from other racial groups.

Kanazawa has a long history of hiding behind pseudo-science to express racist and sexist views. He once wrote an article asking "Are All Women Essentially Prostitutes?" and another suggesting that the US should have dropped nuclear bombs across the entire Middle East after 9/11 because it would have wiped out Muslim terrorists.6

So why does Psychology Today continue to give him a platform? Black women constantly face both subtle and explicit messages that they are valued less than women of other races — messages that are especially damaging to Black girls. Now Psychology Today has served as launching point for yet another attack, this time in the name of science.

Almost as if to cover up the racism inherent in his piece, Kanazawa says that black men are, "if anything more attractive" than their counterparts of other races because of "greater testosterone."7 But even here Kanazawa relies on the same pseudoscience to describe black men in familiar terms — brutish, hypermasculine, oversexed, exotic. And that's dangerous, too.

He uses a modern-day version of the faulty logic used to dehumanize blacks as inferior for hundreds of years, from the social Darwinists and eugenicists of the 19th century to The Bell Curve just 15 years ago. Psychology Today has a responsibility not to give such false logic a stage, nor validation.

To undo the damage it's done, Psychology Today needs to explicitly reject Kanazawa's ideas. Please join us in demanding that their editors apologize, explain how this article was published in the first place and what they'll do to ensure it won't happen again in the future. It takes just a moment:

http://act.colorofchange.org/sign/psychtoday

Thanks and Peace,

Tell Psychology Today to apologize

Psychology Today recently published an article claiming it to be scientific fact that Black women are less beautiful than women of other races.  The article was flawed from top to bottom -- it was actually opinion masquerading as science, written by someone with a track record of using pseudoscience to promote discredited racist and sexist ideas.

Psychology Today needs to apologize, explain how this happened and how they plan to make sure it won't happen again. Please join us in demanding that they do.

Below is the petition we'll send to Psychology Today editor-in-chief Kaja Perina on your behalf:

Dear Ms. Perina ,

I was disturbed by your journal’s decision to publish "Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?" by Satoshi Kanazawa.  An apology is owed to your readers and to Black women, and I would like to understand how this happened, what steps Psychology Today will take to make sure such irresponsible endorsements of dehumanizing pseudoscience doesn’t happen again.

The article in question posited as fact that Black women are less attractive than women of other races and ethnicities. But it’s clear that the post was actually an opinion piece written by someone known to promote racist and sexist ideas. That Psychology Today, which is regarded as a credible source of information about mental health, would publish such stereotype-driven propaganda is shameful. I also find it alarming that you would remove the post from your site but not admit your obvious error.

Please issue a public apology, explain how a damaging opinion piece masquerading as science made it through your journal’s editorial process, and explain what you intend to do to make sure your audience isn’t again subjected to efforts to promote the belief that Black women -- or any other group -- are inferior based on false science.

Thank you,

[Your Name]

Obama A Love Story

This is a great video of our nations history. We must pray and embrace our President. The USA is in Good Hands and behind every great man is a Great WOMAN! So this about how we can be confident that the USA is on the Come Back.

Obama A Love Story: Yes We Can! Support 4 More Years!!

Obama A Love Story, Music Clay Aiken Something About Us.
Yes We Can! Support 4 More Years – Jay O’Conner Chairmand & CEO WCNTV.

Moved by his leadership and poise this pictorial instils incredible insights into the true strength of a nation.  Our First Lady, Michele Obama, his rock provides the stability and courage that is the measure of the man, President Barack Obama.

African American’s don’t bail out on this Presidency just yet. Go pull out your albums of pictures of your families and see if you see any similarities.  As I watched it I could not help but to think about my grandparents and my great grandparents who wish they were here to vote and see this day when the First Family looked like us.

Are we are Perfect Country, No, can we expect a Perfect President in just 2 and half years and has a long list of accomplishments as long as President Theodore Roosevelt.  Let’s not forget he inherited a mess from the Bushes which may take years to unravel the truth.

While I may not have gotten all I have wanted from the Administration if the election were held today, I would support the Re-Election of the First Family.  I have learned more about being a father, a husband, and someone who is cool calm and collected while at the same time working on the nation’s problems with 30% of the country against anything the President attempts to accomplish.

Yes Tavis is right we have to hold the President responsible for what he does or does not do for black people.  But where are the ideas from Black people for Black people?

When the CBC met with President Obama what was asked for?  The President showed up to the National Action Network Meeting where Rev Al Sharpton called for an Action Plan.   Anyone seen a Action Plan.  Now perhaps it’s in formulation and is coming soon.  In the meantime, we cannot expect the President to set the Agenda, Catch the bad guys, balance the budget, fix education, immigration, global warming, deal with the Republican opposition and Fox News while being a father, a husband and the leader of the free will.

Bill Maher got it right.  See his funny clip about the Presidents Multi-Tasking Ability.

The 2011 Presidential Citizen Awards

Nominations due by May 30. Do you know someone worthy. Its time to pay it forward.

WCN Transmedia Group News: The 2011 Presidential Citizen Awards

The White House, Washington

Last year I asked the public to help identify outstanding Americans I should consider for the Citizens Medal, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor. After receiving more than 6,000 nominations, I invited 13 outstanding Americans to the White House to receive the medal and be recognized for their service.

It’s time to do it again.

Like last year, we’re looking for Americans who have performed exemplary deeds of service outside of their regular jobs and provided inspiration for others to serve. You can view the full criteria and get started on a nomination here:

Now I know there are thousands of citizens out there who meet these criteria – I read their letters every night, and I meet many of them in my travels around the country.  I also know that many times their contributions go unrecognized.  The 2011 Citizens Medal is a chance to recognize the everyday heroes in your community.

Here are a few examples of Citizens Medal recipients from last year.

Betty Kwan Chinn was homeless as a child in China and became mute. When she came to America, Betty found her voice and her calling. Today, she provides meals to the homeless in her community twice a day as expressions of gratitude to a welcoming nation.

Susan Retik Ger is a widow who lost her husband on 9/11 who found cause in educating and training Afghan widows and their children.

George Weiss, Jr. is veteran of World War II who founded the Fort Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad, a group of over 125 volunteers who have performed final military honors at over 55,000 veterans’ funerals.

Their stories are powerful reminders of the impact an individual can have on his or her community and on the world. You can watch them tell their stories in a video gallery on WhiteHouse.gov:

If you know someone like Betty, Susan or George, please take a moment to nominate them for the 2011 Citizens Medal before May 30.

Sincerely,
